Baked Ham with Brown Sugar Glaze
Ingredients:
- 1 bone-in ham (8-10 pounds)
- Whole cloves
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions:
1. Preheat Oven:
- Preheat your oven
to 325°F (163°C).
2. Prepare the Ham:
- If the ham comes
with skin, use a sharp knife to score the skin in a diamond pattern. Insert
whole cloves into the ham at the intersections of the cuts.
3. Place in Roasting Pan:
- Place the ham in
a roasting pan, fat side up.
4. Bake:
- Bake the ham in
the preheated oven, uncovered, for about 15-20 minutes per pound or until the
internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C). If your ham comes with a glaze
packet, you can use it according to the package instructions during the last 30
minutes of baking.
5. Prepare the Glaze:
- While the ham is
baking, prepare the glaze. In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, Dijon mustard,
apple cider vinegar, honey, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Cook over
medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the glaze has thickened slightly.
6. Apply the Glaze:
- Brush the ham
with the brown sugar glaze during the last 30-45 minutes of baking. Continue to
bake until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
7. Rest and Serve:
- Once the ham is
done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes before
carving. The internal temperature will continue to rise during this time.
8. Carve and Enjoy:
- Carve the ham
into slices, and serve with the remaining glaze as a sauce on the side.
This baked ham with brown sugar glaze is perfect for holiday
dinners and special occasions. Enjoy!
